When it comes to eating and drinking healthy, we often think that we already know what to do. Most of us don’t need to be told that we should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, for instance, and avoid foods that are high in fats, sugars, and calories, right?

Actually, it’s not quite that simple. For years, we’ve been led to believe that many foods out there are nutritious, when in fact they’re downright awful for us.

1. Juice is not nearly as nutritious as you may think. It’s largely because all of the fiber that makes fruit so beneficial gets lost when it’s in juice form. Making matters worse, juice is low in protein and high in sugar. If you want to drink something, just guzzle some water!


People started drinking more juice after Elmer McCollum, a biochemist, warned that a lack of proper vitamin intake was dangerous. The California Fruit Growers Exchange even started a campaign promoting orange juice as a way to ingest more vitamins.
