Stolen Pit Bull Is Recovered 2,000 Miles From Home With Help From An Unlikely Source

For Cassandra Rasmussen and her two daughters, Zeus was an integral part of their family. He was more than just a lovable pet pit bull. So, as you might imagine, their lives were turned upside down when someone stole the dog from the house. They were utterly shell-shocked. But a short time later, something quite incredible happened close to 2,000 miles away...

Meeting Cassandra

A resident of Butte, Montana, Cassandra is just like any other parent trying to support her family. She works hard to provide for them — but as a result, that means she isn’t always home. It’s an unfortunate downside that many can no doubt relate to! And that’s how this unbelievable story began, as the mom covered a shift at her job back in October 2019.

The unthinkable happened...

It seemed like a relatively normal day for Cassandra at first, but she was soon faced with a nightmarish situation that no one could’ve prepared for. To shed more light on what transpired at the time, a woman named Chelsea Staley spoke to WOWK 13 News in December 2019. She worked for the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, holding the position of executive director.

“Robbed her blind”

Staley told the news station, “[A friend of Cassandra’s] basically robbed her blind. [They] stole her wallet, and a number of [other] things while she was at work — including her dog Zeus.” We can’t even begin to imagine the emotional turmoil that Cassandra went through after she found all of this out. Her heartbreak and anger must’ve been off the charts.

Broken trust

After all, these weren’t the actions of a faceless, mysterious criminal — it was someone Cassandra had trust in. That must’ve made it even worse! But as angry as she no doubt felt, she must have been more concerned about Zeus’ safety. Where could her “friend” have taken the beloved pit bull? What might they do to him?
